7 8 BUSINESS VIEW OCEANIA VOLUME 4, ISSUE 3 BUSINESS VIEW OCEANIA VOLUME 4, ISSUE 3 A ustralia’s Queensland Government has announced their Zero Emission Vehicle Strategy for 2022-2032, detailing efforts to increase uptake of electric vehicles in the general population by introducing a $3,000 subsidy for new buyers. The strategy is funded by an investment of $55 million ($45 million dedicated to the subsidy and $10 million for the development of charging infrastructure across the state) and is accompanied by the Zero Emission Vehicle Action Plan, for 2022-2024. The Zero Emission Vehicle Strategy includes the following targets: • 50% of new passenger vehicle sales to be zero emission by 2030 • 100% of new passenger vehicle sales to be zero emission by 2036 Department of Transport and Main Roads. The organisation seeks to create a single integrated transport network accessible to everyone by delivering exceptional public transport services, ticketing, information, and infrastructure. Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk states, “We are going to make the cost of buying electric cars just that little bit cheaper. My government will provide a subsidy for anyone buy an electric vehicle to the value of $58 thousand.” Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey shared that the strategy will be a crucial contributor to the establishment of the Sunshine State as a future leader in renewable energy and provide new industry incentives. “Not only does this encourage people to buy electric vehicles; it gives the automotive industry conference to set up shop in Queensland. This strategy signals a fundamental shift in our transport system.
