The Local Government Association of
Queensland (LGAQ) is the longest con-
tinuing peak body in Queensland. It is
a not-for-profit association set up sole-
ly to serve the state’s 77 councils and
their individual needs. The fact that it
has been in existence for 120 years
is a testament to the value that it pro-
vides its member councils.
The LGAQ serves a critical function
as the issues of local government are
vital to the state and in many respects
to the nation. Every public policy or
economic policy matter or even any
infrastructure program of the state or
federal government involves the local
community.
